Part 1: The 4 reasons it's gotten harder for Restaurants to get and keep new CUSTOMERS in 2023!
Like it or not, it's more difficult to get CUSTOMERS now than it used to be. There are a lot reasons for that but we can organize all of those reasons into the following 4 categories.
Too many times, we see businesses get comfortable with their place in the market and they just stop marketing their business to new customers. While this can work for a short period of time for more established businesses, that eventually leads to all kinds of problems as existing CUSTOMERS will move on. It's incredibly important that we have a marketing plan to constantly expose new potential CUSTOMERS to our business so that we don't fall victim to "Existing Customer Creep".
The 4 Reasons it's gotten harder to get new CUSTOMERS in the last 5 years.
1. Increased Local Competition
You've probably noticed it happening in your local area over the last few years. There has been a huge increase in the number of direct competitors opening up shop all over the country and this can easily amount to there being fewer CUSTOMERS to go around for every Restaurant in the area.
The general public often doesn't understand the difference between you and your competitors at a glance so, with this increased presence of competition, it's important that we do things to help our business stand out (more on that in the next section).
2. Decreased Visibility in your Local Marketplace
3. Lack of focus on CUSTOMER Education
One of the biggest business killers is failing to educate and connect with your marketyplace. Whether it's done in person or online, it's important to always give away a certain level of your expertise for free in order to show that you provide a unique experience. This is one of the easiest and most effective ways to distance yourself from the competition in your local market and to brand yourself as the only choice for your potential CUSTOMERS.
4. Not Utilizing the Internet as a Primary Marketing Medium
The cheapest and most effective way to reach your customers is through the internet. Whether that be your website or via your social media channels, these are the best places to reach your potential user base and to keep your restaurant first in their minds when they are planning on eating out.
With all of those things working against you, how do you combat them and become more attractive to the potential CUSTOMERS in your Local Markets?

Part 2:
The 2 core things your Restaurant has to do in order to attract and keep CUSTOMERS.
The 2 core things your Restaurant has to do in order to attract and keep CUSTOMERS.
There are two core things that every business out there has to do right now in order to be more successful and to attract more people to their front door.
The 2 core things BUSINESS NICHE Must do to attract more new Customers Right Now:
#1: Increase your Business' Visibility
#1: Increase your Business' Visibility
One of the most important things that we can do right now is to make sure that our business is a part of the "conversation" in places where our potential CUSTOMERS are already hanging out. We have to seek out the places where those folks already exist normally and make our business a part of that (more on how we do that in the next section).
#2: Educate all of those "New Eyeballs"
Once we are in front of all of those new people, we need to make sure that we have content in front of them that will exhibit our uniqueness and help them understand why they can expect a memorable experience with you. When you can show your customers how you are different and special, you deliver "results in advance" to them.
This causes them to bond with our business before they ever step foot through our front door. This creates a desire to work with you over your competition.
That all sounds good in theory, but how do we actually increase our visibility and then educate all of those "new eyeballs" on the value behind what we do everyday in our business?

The 3 Step Process we use to attract new Restaurant Customers and keep them returning, without spending a lot of money or time.
The 3 Step Process we use to attract new Restaurant Customers and keep them returning, without spending a lot of money or time.
To be successful we have to make sure that we are getting in front of our audience more easily and more often. We also have to make sure that we're doing it in a way that isn't going to cost us an arm and a leg. We've had a ton of success doing that by following the formula that we explain below.
The Simple 3 step Process that we use to Attract Restaurant CUSTOMERS
The Simple 3 step Process that we use to Attract Restaurant CUSTOMERS
Step 1: Create a Special Offer that Customers Redeem on Their Birthdays
Ask yourself, when are people most inclined to go out to eat. Holidays, anniversaries, getting a raise. According to Yougov, when it comes to holidays Americans say they enjoy, their birthday outranks many others, including Valentine's Day, Halloween, and New Year's Eve. And in a survey, 31% said they go out to eat almost every year. Another 49% said they eat out some years.
So 80% of people are inclined to go to a restaurant on their birthdays.
The offer we have found very effective, is to send a special offer to customers on their birthdays. They have a lot of choices on where to go, but your special offer stands out.
So Step 1 is creating a special offer to existing customers. This will attract new customers as well if you display the signup in social media.
You could offer a free appetizer or meal, or BOGO. This has the biggest impact, but some discount, say 20%, could also be effective.

Step 2: Build Your Customer List
How to build a restaurant customer list
Building a restaurant customer list is an essential part of any successful restaurant. It allows you to keep track of your customers and their preferences, build relationships with them, and market new promotions or menu items to them. Here is a list of tips for creating a successful restaurant customer list .
We have seen some restaurants who use a sign in book. They then take the information and compile the list. This is time intensive, so we recommend adding them to a text and email list. If you had to choose one, texts get a much higher open rate, so go with SMS texting.
You can also use your signup method in your social media, in your reputation management and other ways.

Step 3: Send the Birthday Special a Week or More Before the Birthday.
Send Your Birthday Deal to Your Customer
Depending on what information you have and how you have created your customer list will determine the options for sending the birthday coupon.
If your list is on paper, and you have customer addresses, you could send them via physical mail. But do you really want to sit down, address the envelopes, place a stamp and drop them off to be mailed?
Much better would be to have an email address and even better mobile number. This way you can send your coupons via email and texts. And you can remind your customers after the first message. Start a week before, and repeat a few days before the birthday.
Bonus: You now have a list of fans that you can contact on a regular basis. This will keep you top of mind whenever they are thinking about going out to eat.
